30 www.SullivansIslandMagazine.com | www.SullivansIslandHomes.com B orn and raised in Washington, Linda Norton grew up adventuring around the Pacific Northwest. She met her husband, Matt, while working at IBM, and they moved here in the late 1990s. Through a chance African medical mission in 2012, she was introduced to Project Okurase, a nonprofit whose focus is to come up with solutions for issues like safe water systems, health and nutrition, education, economic self-sufficiency and more. Norton got involved and eventually became the executive director for the U.S. extension. Though a piece of her heart remains in Ghana, which she visits on average every six months, Norton loves the life her family has built on Sullivan’s Island. “We have a wonderful group of friends, and we raised our kids here. They grew up safe on the island, exploring the marsh, the beach and were outside all the time. It’s how I grew up.” Photo by Jess Wood. .
