27 www.SullivansIslandMagazine.com | www.SullivansIslandHomes.com T his island may only be 2.5 square miles of land, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in salt-of-the-earth residents. Maybe the salty ocean breeze helps. This recurring feature is intended to shine light on some members of the community who enhance it or make the island unique. We often lead our lives thinking that our personal stories are “not that interesting,” — or at least that’s a common comment I get when I first ask someone if I can feature them in the “We Are” segment. Truth be told, Sullivan’s Island is peppered with celebrities, politicians and well- known names, but everyone has a story. I am grateful that these four people have shared theirs with me. As we learn about each other and the ways people grow, overcome and help others, perhaps we can be inspired to do the same as we continue writing chapters in our own lives.
