Ruth borrowed money from a family friend and bought the house. “There were many days of painting and working on the house DIY style,” said her daughter, Caroline. “Family swims, crabbing, sailing and biking on the strand. Nights on the porch sharing ghost stories and great food.” Still, Ruth needed a rose garden to make it truly feel like home. According to Caroline, “more than 500 roses were transported to the Lowcountry.” A self-trained rose expert, Ruth grows plants from the world over – France, New Zealand and Bermuda, to name a few. Her expertise enabled her to create a rose trail in the city of Charleston, and her roses have other homes as well, including Boone Hall Plantation. . i I l i . | . lli I l .
