A cool breeze lifts the bride’s hair gently from her face as the ceremony begins. The soft setting sun shines on the groom’s face as he smiles at his future wife while waves roll in and out along the shore and sand sparkles beneath their feet. It all sounds dreamy. … And it is for many couples who decide to say “I do” on the beach at Sullivan’s Island. It’s a romantic and idyllic setting to start a life together. Several couples who were recently married on the beach at Sullivan’s Island said it is a dream come true. Layken Elliott married Cole Davis on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, on the beach behind Fort Moultrie. Layken said getting married on Sullivan’s Island was “the best decision ever.” With just the officiant and a friend to take photos By Tonya McGue in attendance, the couple said their vows with the evening sun glowing in the background. Cole said, “It was really special and intimate.” The young Virginia couple are beach lovers and picked Sullivan’s Island after visiting a couple times. “We knew we would want to make it a place to come back to visit.” Mary Evelyn Martin said she and her husband, James , who live in Tennessee, chose the Station 12 beach for their ceremony on April 12, 2017, because they had many great memories there. “I always wanted a beach wedding, and Station 12 is a special place,” said Mary Evelyn, who carried handmade sweetgrass roses they purchased from the Charleston City Market. “My parents and I enjoyed lots of trips there over the years, and James graduated from the College of Charleston.
