Cooke, who moved here from Greenville and is now a Sullivan’s Island resident, said she picked the island to open her gallery by accident while on vacation years ago. She spotted a For Rent sign in the window of the corner building at Station 20 and Middle Street and decided right then that Sullivan’s Island would be a charming location for an art gallery. Sandpiper Gallery was at that spot for 12 years before moving to its current location at 2201 Middle Street seven years ago. Cooke is proud to be part of Sullivan’s Island and receives a lot of support from residents. “It’s a very art-centered community. Residents value the arts.
