My mission in life is to take care of Barbara. I follow her wherever she goes. When she gets up, I get up. When she goes for a walk, I go for a walk. I’ve heard her say she doesn’t mind me being her shadow because I’m always happy to see her, I never hold a grudge and I never suggest a better way for her to do things. In return, she tells me I’m handsome. When she hops in the front seat of the golf cart, I jump onto the back seat. I have short legs, so I stand behind her. I love the wind on my face. I feel confident on my golf-cart throne and bark at dogs as we whiz by them. Once, I lost my balance and fell off the cart. Barbara didn’t realize it for a few blocks. We were eventually reunited and continued our journey. One of our favorite things to do is sit on the porch. We while away the hours watching the world pass by – moms pushing strollers, teenagers riding bikes, old men walking and neighbors meandering to and from the beach.
