Our Sullivan’s Island Neigh bors Signe Pike Lives on: Sullivan’s Island. From: Ithaca, New York. Education/experience: Bachelor’s in communication science, Cornell University. Employment: Author of “The Lost Queen Trilogy” (Atria/Simon & Schuster), former acquisitions editor (Random House). Interests/hobbies: I love history and following its fingerprints across various cultures, especially through travel, hiking, reading and writing. I’m reading “Underland” by Robert McFarlane now — highly recommend. I’m happiest when close to nature. I love yoga, cooking for friends, biking around the island and evening beach time. Your “perfect” weekend:  Yoga, brunch, playing tourist in my own town with my 4-year-old boy, dinner and drinks with friends. Favorite restaurant on the island: High Thyme. Favorite quote or philosophy: “If you surrendered to the air, you could ride it. You wanna fly, you’ve got to give up the s*** that weighs you down. If there is a book you want to read and it hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it.” — Toni Morrison. Karen Burke Lives on: Sullivan’s Island. From: Versailles, Kentucky. Education/experience: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Western Kentucky University. Employment: History of sales and corporate trainer for Charles Schwab. Stay-at-home mom for two kids who are now 18 (Peyton) and 20 (Connor).  Interests/hobbies: Painter of custom art, pets, Lowcountry scenes and personal commissions. Rescuer of four dogs and one cat. Please adopt, don’t shop.  Your “perfect” weekend: Perfect weekend is spent at home with coffee in the morning on my porch with my husband and dogs. Morning beach walk. Then relaxing day on Sullivan’s with family and friends with toes in the sand. Get takeout from an island restaurant and eat enjoying the view from the porch with the family all home.  Favorite restaurant on the island: Anywhere our golf cart can take us … but Poe’s for burgers, The Co-Op for sandwiches and Frose, and Obstinate Daughter for oysters. Too many! Love them all! Favorite quote or philosophy: My philosophies are to enjoy the simple things, shower the people you love with love, dogs make everything better and vitamin sea is the best medicine. Laurie Ulmer Lives on: Sullivan’s Island. From: Elloree, South Carolina. Education/experience: Clemson University graduate. Employment: Owner of YardWorks Landscaping in Mount Pleasant. Interests/hobbies: Traveling on mission trips to Africa, Central America and Asia to spread the love of Jesus. Your “perfect” weekend: Rising early, grabbing my board and surfing some 3- to 5-foot glassy waves, hanging out with my boys, Alex and Rivers, and then late-afternoon beach time with my wife, Dawn. Favorite restaurant on the island: High Thyme for the tuna and Emily’s hospitality, and Sullivan’s Restaurant for the crispy flounder and Miss Donna’s Southern charm. Favorite quote or philosophy:  “If you knew who God made you to be, you’d never want to be anyone else.” — Bill Johnson. Greg Boger Lives on: Sullivan’s Island, Station 19. From: Columbia, South Carolina. Education/experience: USC for undergrad, then Charleston School of Law, but I never practiced. I went straight into real estate in New York, moved back after six years and now am a Realtor here. Employment: Realtor with The Cassina Group. Interests/hobbies: Offshore fishing. Your “perfect” weekend: Any weekend spent fishing is a good weekend. I’d be happy fishing the flats for redfish or the Gulfstream for billfish. Favorite restaurant on the island: High Thyme — scallops and tuna are my favorites. Favorite quote or philosophy:  “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. An optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston Churchill. [ Facetime ]
