Despite the extensive interior renovations planned, Lewis and Stucken say the home’s exterior will remain largely unchanged, both due to historical district restrictions and their personal choice to retain as much of the original character as possible. Ideally, they hope to move in by late 2020. Stucken and Lewis also now have a 4-month-old, so, as Stucken noted, “It seemed like a really nice place to raise the baby.” Lawson would agree. She recalls of her formative summers spent vacationing in the house: “It was just a wonderful place to grow up.” on the expansive porch with family and guests during vacations as a child enjoying the breathtaking views. She moved to South Carolina in 1994 and spent even more time in the house with her own daughters. The house features 12-foot-plus high ceilings and the floors are original wide heart pine. The old brick fireplaces located in the property’s guest cottage house and the detached kitchen are another intriguing facet of this quaint home. In the end, it was the home’s unique character and history that kept drawing Stucken and Lewis back – and the fact that it had stayed in the same family for a century.
